Feeling more vulnerable…because you’re pregnant

When I was eight and a half months along during my second pregnancy, my car was broken into and my computer bag was stolen. I believed I felt more violated about this act because I was pregnant. It was a little hard for me to articulate exactly why I believed that. Some of it was a “Hey, you’re supposed to be nice to me and look out for me…I’m pregnant!” point of view. Because I had experienced lots of support and offers of help and interest in my unborn baby from everyone I knew and people I didn’t even know. So there was a feeling that this should not be happening to me while I was pregnant.

I vividly remember standing in the parking garage with my mouth hanging open and my hand on my belly, staring at my broken window…knowing my computer bag was gone… and feeling astonished.
