GaGA! Growing and Getting Awesome… the Official Loving the Pregnant You Blog

How can you visualize the kind of birth you want?

Georgia prepared for her birth process by actively visualizing the experience she wanted to have. I asked her, How can you visualize something you’ve never done? How can you picture what you want to have happen? She admitted this was a good question and proceeded to try to explain.

Some of what she did was anticipate the feelings and sensations of the birthing process – how she wanted it to feel, what kinds of emotions she’d like to experience during the process. Another thing that helped her was educating herself on anatomy. She looked at pictures of the cervix and understood what different muscle groups would be engaged during different stages of the process. With this knowledge she could imagine what it would look and feel like as her body was experiencing the journey of birth. She could begin to create how her birth experience would look and feel.

Please join the conversation: How do you visualize something you’ve never done before? What’s worked for you?
