There are increasingly more options out there for those of us who want to intentionally choose the type of people who will support us during our pregnancy and childbirth. The initial options that come to mind include a doctor, a midwife, a doula, and a birth partner. And, there are other practitioners you may choose to include in your journey like an acupuncturist or a Reiki Master (who provides energy healing and balancing) and an infinite number of ways that you can carve out and create your relationships with these types of individuals.
For some, the choice about a primary care provider is super easy. Maybe there’s a recommendation from a friend that sounds perfect, maybe you already have an OB/Gyn you love, maybe you’re excited about interviewing possible doulas with your husband, or maybe you simply know you’ll call the three midwives in your area and choose the one that feels like the best fit. Somehow you are led to your choice easily.
For others it can seem more daunting to make the “right” choice. The number of choices may be overwhelming. Or you feel the weight and significance of ensuring you’ve got the best people supporting you during this important and emotional time. You may not know where you’ll start or how you’ll make the choice.
